Experience two nights of global music and culture. The Penang World Music Festival returns on the 11th & 12th of April 2015. This time at the iconic Esplanade in George Town, Penang.

The Penang World Music Festival celebrates diversity in world music. It features a repertoire of performances ranging from traditional to fusion and contemporary music. Outstanding artistes from Penang and other states of Malaysia, together with artistes from other countries around the world bring to the audience an authentic experience in world music and culture. The Penang World Music Festival promises to deliver the ultimate experience for music lovers and is undoubtedly a unique event not to be missed.

Enrich your musical experience with workshops by our invited artists. Explore their experience, sate your curiosity and learn musical technique. There’s something for everyone at the PWMF2015 !

Step into a part of history, as the PWMF2015 workshop sessions invite you within the imposing Fort Cornwallis. Built a century ago to protect the beach front from invasion, it’s now a window into our storied past. And the perfect venue for an event that brings together people from around the world in a celebration of our common humanity.

Getting To Penang

By Air
Penang is easily accessible by air with daily flights from major airports in the country and the region. The Penang International Airport is about 20km from the city centre.

Taxis plying the route follow the coupon system which fares between the airport and various destinations in Penang are fixed.

By Road
The North-South Highway connects Penang to major cities on the West side of Peninsular Malaysia. Travel by highway can take anywhere from 4-5 hours with toll charges in between.
Once you reach Butterworth, which is the island’s main entry point from the mainland, you may take either the Penang Bridge or the ferry to cross over to the island, which still operates from Butterworth to Weld Quay and will transport your vehicle too at a small charge. A charge of RM7 is levied on all classes of cars at the toll plaza in Perai on the mainland. No payment is required for travelling from the island to the mainland.

By Ferry
From Butterworth, it is necessary to take the ferry to Penang Island. The ferry service is available for both passengers and vehicles. Tickets are purchased at the Butterworth terminal.

By Rail
The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth takes approximately six hours. Taking the train is a comfortable way to travel within the country and it affords one the opportunity to see a lot of the countryside.
The railway station on mainland Penang connects to the mainline which runs from Bangkok to Johor Bahru (for access from Singapore)

Tickets

The tickets to the festival are priced at at RM80 for a One-Day Pass and RM140 for Two-Day Pass. Student passes are also available for RM60. Children below 12 years old can enter for free. Tickets can be purchased online from www.ticketcharge.com.my.

Purchase your tickets from KOMTAR Ground Floor (Maybank information centre) and Queensbay Mall, North Zone Kiosk (beside escalator) and get a FREE participation in the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2015 on 22 Nov 2015. Tickets are transferable, and participants can choose to enter any categories. One ticket number for one participant only.
